In this article, I’ll tell you exactly why I love and use them every time I’m out metal detecting in cold water conditions.

Michigan is a wonderful place to live because of its changing seasons. However, those changing seasons can make metal detecting very difficult to endure, especially when it comes to metal detecting in the water year-round.
Many of the lakes and rivers I like to detect can be down-right frigid! Icebergs would be floating by me in the middle of January, but there I am, out metal detecting up to my elbows in the water searching for treasure. Time and time again, I have detected in those conditions and every one of them I have used these gloves, which have performed flawlessly.

Thick, Durable & Protective

While out detecting, I’ve scrapped these gloves over rocks, ice, sticks, metal, rusted iron, and the list goes on… Just as these gloves do! The durability has exceeded my expectations and is why I have been able to use the same pair for over 7+ years of metal detecting.
No rips even after pulling out countless items from this metal scoop year after year!
While I am metal detecting out in the water, I always end up finding all sorts of various metal objects, many of which are jagged, rusty, and downright dangerous to handle. Not wearing something to protect my hands would be detrimental as I pick them out of my scoop after each recovery, but because the rubber coating is so thick around the hands and fingers of these gloves, it has saved me a few trips to the emergency room! The inner, cotton layer of each glove is comfy and cozy.
While the outer rubber layer provides a strong barrier to keeping your hands dry and safe from water getting inside the gloves, the inner layer of the glove is lined with a cozy, cotton cloth material that will help retain the body heat given from your hands and arms.
This cloth liner is also a nice “creature comfort” because it is much more pleasant against the hands and skin compared to the feeling of hard rubber which would otherwise cause your skin sticking to it, irritation, , and possibly blisters from rubbing against the hard rubber.
However, the cotton liner prevents any of that from happening, making it a pleasure when wearing these gloves for hours of metal detecting enjoyment even in the harshest conditions.
Full Arm Protection
These gloves are waterproof all the way up to the shoulders.
One thing that was important to me when looking for waterproof gloves for metal detecting was that they also covered more than just the hands. That was crucial because I wanted to be able to wade out in the water a little deeper, but still keep my arms dry and warm as well.
Even as waves splash against me, my hands and arms stay protected because the opening to the glove is all the way up at the shoulder. This is credited to the gloves spanning 38 inches a piece. That’s a 6ft wingspan of waterproof coverage!
Easy On, Easy Off
These gloves make it very easy to put on and take off because they are a one size “fits most” and honestly, I would say they will fit all. I have rather large hands and can palm a basketball and I am able to get these gloves on with ease.
Because they go the length of the arm all the way to the shoulder, the entry point for your hands is very wide and leaves plenty of extra room to go around your sweatshirt, jacket, etc. so that you can further insulate your arms while wearing them. There’s even enough room to wear a thin, inner glove over your hands or add a hand warmer packet to the inside to help keep your “little piggies” nice and toasty!

Strong, Elastic Strap
These gloves are attached together with a strong, elastic strap that is cross stitched to the gloves themselves. If you do decide to remove the gloves at any point while out and about, they won’t fall off in to the water because the strap will hang around the back of the neck and the gloves will hang from the front of the shoulder, thus keeping it out of harms way.
The stitching provides a strong connection between the gloves and strap.
I personally like the strap because it keeps the gloves together and I don’t have to worry about forgetting just one glove, which would ultimately ruin my day of hunting.
That would also leave me with one hand left out in the cold which means those “little piggies would go WEE WEE WEE all the way home!”

The One Downside
Picking up small objects can sometimes be a challenge.
The one downside with these gloves actually stems from the biggest positive that they provide and that is because the fingers and hands are so well insulated and protected via the rubber coating, it makes it difficult to pick up small, flat items such as coins or rings from your scoop.
It’s like trying to pick up a grain of rice with chopsticks, only instead of using chopsticks, you’re using carrots. However, with a little practice and adapting on how you retrieve targets from your scoop, this will become a non-issue.
The difficulty in finger dexterity is a small price to pay, especially when there are all the other positives mentioned above that check off major boxes in areas that you would want a good waterproof glove to have.
