Welcome to the blog. My name is Ace or as some may know me on YouTube - Swing4TheRing. I aim to help both the would-be pirate as well as the everyday treasure hunter who has an interest in the hobby of metal detecting. Who’s ready to get dirty?

Metal Detecting Videos & Channels

Metal Detecting Videos & Channels

For the treasure hunter in all of us, searching for and watching good or entertaining metal detecting videos is a treasure hunt in itself.  There are many platforms both online and on TV that have numerous options of metal detecting videos to choose from.

The best part about having so many selections is that there is something out there for everyone and every type of metal detectorist.  In this edition of the Metal Detecting Life, I’ll go over some of my favorite metal detecting videos and channels throughout both social and mainstream media.

The Best Selling Metal Detectors

No matter what you’re searching for, there’s a metal detector out there for you. Regardless if you are looking for gold, silver, coins, jewelry, or relics, there’s a detector for you!

By now, many casual readers of the Metal Detecting Life have probably realized I also create my own metal detecting videos on my YouTube channel, Swing4TheRing, which is where I post most of my metal detecting adventures.  I started making videos back in 2012 on YouTube on another channel, Ace Yo, when all I had was a cell phone and did no post editing on a computer.  It was just RAW metal detecting and treasure hunting videos, along with a few other random happenings at the time.

Fast forward to now where I record with multiple cameras, GoPros, and even a drone! I take time to edit and piece together each hunt to help tell the story, as well as add in some music and sound effects or extra graphics for a little fun from time to time.

I just aim to keep the viewers engaged because not every find will be an amazing gold ring and I want to show that it’s okay to go out and dig “junk.” By poking a little fun at the trash finds, it helps to emphasis that often times the true treasure we all seek is the “thrill of the hunt!”

With that said, here are a couple of my favorite videos I’ve made over the years:

Metal Detecting YouTubers

There are only so many adventures one can have or has had time for and making videos to help document those adventures can be even more time consuming.  Fortunately for us, there are SO many other treasure hunters out there that are documenting their favorite metal detecting adventures as well!

While this blog would never end if I listed every channel and video I’ve watched on metal detecting, I will list a few of my favorites, some of which you may have heard of while others may be new to you.  I hope you enjoy and please help support them by possibly subscribing or at least leave a comment on their channel letting them know that “Swing4TheRing” sent you!

DrTones24k

Brandon, or DrTones24k as he is known on YouTube is a true adventurer!  He’s not afraid to go off the beaten path and search for all types of treasure, relics, and artifacts.  I love that he involves his family on his adventures and it is a great showing of how metal detecting and treasure hunting can really help a family bond.

The Metal Detecting Bible is available on Amazon both in Kindle and paperback format.

His videos are a pleasure to watch as he is a superb storyteller and the videos are always edited seamlessly to keep the story moving along.  He also has a great network of friends who help put in hours upon hours of research as they help one another to get on the good stuff.

Brandon has also wrote and published a book, “The Metal Detecting Bible,” which is a great read for treasure hunters new and old! It is always nice to see a detectorist who is helping support other detectorists and helping to develop their skills.

True Vikings

I’ve been watching Emil and Joel, True Vikings, from the time they were at 77 subscribers.  They are two gents from Finland that have been traveling the world in search of the next, great treasure.  Even when they aren’t finding Roman or Saxon gold (which is rare), nothing seems to get them down while they are metal detecting.

In fact, I love their channel for the pure simplicity of metal detecting and light hearted humor that they have in their videos.  Truly, a good couple of detectorists that I wouldn’t mind spending a week out in the fields with, digging “Roman pull tabs!"

Little Dirt Diggers

If you’re looking for a daddy-daughter detecting duo, this channel is for you!  Father Shannon and daughter Emily aren’t scared to go out and get dirty.  It’s in their names!  Little Dirt Diggers is the perfect example of how a parent can pass on their love of metal detecting to their children and I must say, I think dad passed on his detecting skills too because Emily has had some amazing finds!

Emily often goes out detecting and will bring home more treasures than dad can even find!  This could be attributed to her “lucky worms” that she often finds while digging.

Little Dirt Diggers, a member of the Kellyco Test Team, is the perfect channel to help inspire your own kids, nieces and nephews, or grandkids to pick up a new hobby, get outside, and to go find treasure!

ChicagoRon Guinazzo

Chicago Ron is one of the oldest channels I’ve been following and you’ll notice that when you look at his channel with many of his videos being 10+ years old!  He has removed many of his more recent videos, but you can still find updates on his latest metal detecting adventures over at his website, ChicagoRon.

Ron also hosts several trips to England each year in which he takes groups of detectorists out to permissions he has with the hopes of finding Roman and Saxon treasure hoards!  Be sure to follow his raffle for a chance to win a discounted trip to detect with him in England.

She Detector

Metal detecting isn’t just a hobby for the boys.  She Detector started metal detecting as well as her YouTube channel in 2015 and hasn’t stopped since.  Her channel is an excellent collection of videos to watch her journey as she starts out as a novice detectorist who is just happy to find anything at all to now being an avid treasure hunter who is helping recover lost engagement and wedding rings for people.

Always glowing with positivity on her hunts, She Detector is an excellent role model for all the young ladies out there who want to give the hobby of metal detecting a try. She also is a member of the Kellyco Test Team and offers some great insight on a wide variety of metal detectors and gear that anyone would need to go out and dig.

Gone Diggin

If you’re looking for a channel that does it all, Matt at Gone Diggin is your guy!  He’s not afraid to put the coil to the soil in some rough terrain, but what is even more impressive is his adventures with sharks… shark’s teeth that is!

Matt has found a ton of shark’s teeth including some very impressive Megalodon teeth!  Not a fan of fossils or metal detecting?  How about magnet fishing?  Like I said, Matt does it all and he has plenty of videos to help keep you entertained!

GraveDiggerMax - Treasure & Blades

Perhaps my favorite metal detectorist to listen to on YouTube, GraveDiggerMax’s commentary during his hunts feels like ASMR… in a gentle, southern accent kind of way.  His channel and videos just provide good ole’ wholesome content when it comes to metal detecting.

Even in the “Land of Nada,” you can always still expect a good day at “Surfchurch” watching metal detecting videos from GraveDiggerMax, even if he does get a case of the “mumbles!”

DALLMYD

For any treasure hunters who have a desire to go in to the depths of Davy Jones’ Locker, Jake’s channel at DALLMYD is for you.  Perhaps one of the most subscribed to treasure hunters out on YouTube with over 10 million followers, Jake has recovered all sorts of items from the water while snorkeling and scuba diving.

At times he uses a metal detector, otherwise he is just “underwater-eyeballing” his finds as he combs the bottom of lakes and rivers.  Jake has helped recover everything from sunglasses and cellphones to wedding rings and yes, even a full sized pick-up truck!

Jake is far from a treasure pirate though because in many of his videos he can be found searching for and returning those lost items to their original owners.  Be sure to watch his channel for some amazing finds and you may just find yourself getting scuba certified!

Made For TV Shows

Detectorists

If you haven’t been able to catch the British sitcom “Detectorist,” originally featured on the BBC, then you’re missing out.  Now I will be honest, the first few episodes took some getting used to for me because the humor and pace of the show is a bit dry and slow.  However, the more I watched, the more I began to relate with how they poked a bit of fun at the hobby because there was a lot of truth behind it.

I ended up loving the character development and I thought they did a great job with the overall storyline, a build up of 3 seasons worth of episodes (19 in total) to help bring the story full circle.

If you missed the original airings, you can still catch the episodes on Amazon with a Free Acorn TV 7-day Trial and I will say, it is well worth it, especially during this heat wave or those cold winter months when digging is seemingly next to impossible!

New Social Media Platforms

For those of us that don’t have time to sit down and watch a 20 minute metal detecting video online, TikTok is a new and emerging platform that I have also begun posting short 10-second to 3 minute long videos.  You can even now do live-streaming and interact with your audience!

TikTok is an app that can be accessed from your phone and it seems so many people are using mobile to watch content now, so I figured why not create some short, simple videos that are easy to access anywhere.

Just like the name of the blog here, you can find my short TikTok metal detecting videos on the app by searching @metaldetectinglife and then sorting via the “users” tab. These short videos are perfect to watch while you’re sitting and waiting for the doctor to finally come in for your appointment or maybe while you are waiting for that delicious pizza pie to come to your door and the treasure bug is itching and you just have to watch something quick.

*Disclaimer - TikTok has billions of videos and it can be hard to find the exact content you may be looking for if you are not a tech savvy individual.

Summary

I love making metal detecting videos and bringing you all along on the adventure with me just as much as I love actually finding treasure.  Hopefully you enjoy the videos that are put out online by all the people you may be watching and following as they metal detect and hunt for various types of treasure.

I think it is fantastic that the metal detecting community can come together through the use of videos to not only entertain, but to also help educate.  Videos demonstrating how to operate new machines, use various programs, conduct research, display finds, etc. are very helpful and of course we all love the videos of someone finding a cache of coins, a gold ring, or digging Civil War relics because it is like we are right there next to them as they hunt and can feel the same excitement!  That is why I love making and watching metal detecting videos.

If you have a channel or any videos you wish to share, please leave a message with your channel or video link as we’ll be featuring videos in upcoming blogs.  If you don’t have a channel, feel free to just leave a message letting me know what your favorite find of the past month has been.

Until next time, remember to go out there and Swing4TheRing!
