Trash Bash Fall 2022

  • Grand Haven State Park 1001 S Harbor Dr Grand Haven, MI, 49417 United States (map)

Event Mission

To bring as many metal detectorists together as possible to help scan the beach for trash (and treasure of course), digging & picking up EVERYTHING we find with both our metal detectors as well as eyes.

Yes… even plastic and non-metallic items that we visually see will be picked up and weighed! OHHH… and even if you don’t metal detect, you’re welcome to come out and help us BASH the TRASH out of the beach using your “Eyetrac.”

Event Goal

To leave the park cleaner and safer than we found it so that all may continue to use and enjoy Michigan’s beautiful parks.

.

Teamwork

To ensure we cover as much of the area as possible and so that no item of trash is left behind, participating detectorists will be instructed to form a staggered search party line and walk each section of the beach, maintaining their lanes until the end of their section.

Then, the line will swing around from the person at the end of the line and walk back toward the end they started.  This process continues until the beach is searched from waterline to parking lot.

The Weigh-In

ALL trash will be collected and brought to the weigh-in station (Chow Hound of Grand Haven) throughout the event for a final Trash Bash Total so that it may be logged and tracked for future events. There will be a social media contest to guess the closest to the correct weight with a featured prize for whoever is the closest!

Bring Your Own Food

BYOF - “Bring Your Own Food” for a fellowship picnic after the event to sit and chat with other area detectorists and hopefully make a few new friends as we tell our tall tales of pirate treasure!

Fun Stuff & Things

We know you will all be out there working hard, swinging & digging for trashy targets you may not normally dig, so we hope to have some fun things to give out for participants by involving community partners (below) and area businesses!
